Microsoft collects key information leading to Windows Problems

Don’t make a mistake by assuming that Microsoft is unaware of Windows Problems and are sitting smug over the troublesome issues. No, they are not. And that’s precisely why they have developed the MER or Microsoft Error Reporting system through which they can gather information about the nature of the problem. As a matter of fact, most of us have, sometime or the other, come across this phenomenon whenever a problem arises. The MER immediately asks the users permission to report the problem to Microsoft.
This information, as you can well appreciate, helps Microsoft and Microsoft partners in diagnosing the problem and finding solutions for it. Not that a solution is found all the time, some problems remaining unanswered. But the issues are noted down by Microsoft and are carefully cultivated during restructuring of newer Windows versions. However, solutions that are found for those problems are often offered as updates for installation. Incidentally, Microsoft, while collecting such information respects the privacy of the user who is routinely asked if he or she wants the report to be sent to Microsoft, also providing the option for viewing the matter before sending it. It is collected only after the user agrees to send the report by going through it.
Microsoft Error Reporting service not only collects the errors encountered by the user but also errors that lie behind such events. As a matter of fact, the latter is more important since, if left unresolved, it will exacerbate the issue and may cause system failure. To make matters more effective, Microsoft insists on knowing where the problem occurred – whether in the hardware or the software, its range of severity as also the files that help identify the problem. Microsoft already knows that these failures/problems are characteristically system or report-generated files containing software behavior either before or after the problem had arisen. Basic hardware software information, to be precise, would include OS version, language, device models or memory and hard disk volume.
Since error reporting is vital towards identifying WindowsProblems to a great extent, Microsoft encourages all to use the Microsoft System Center Desktop Error Monitoring to deal with the subject.
